Saint Maurice Monastery  

Our village, Bakonybel is situated in western Hungary in the beautiful Bakony Mountains, about 120 kms from Budapest. If you come by public transport there are three direct coaches per day from Budapest at 6:50 am, 3:00 pm and 4:30pm from Népliget coach terminal. This is a three-hour trip from Budapest. You can come by car from the direction of Veszprém- Zirc, or Győr- Zirc. Visitors can park opposite the church building; guests of the guest house can use an inner parking place. 

Open:
From Monday to Saturday, 1000-1200  and 1300-1700
Groups may arrive in other times, which we can arrange in advance.

You can visit:
Court of Pilgrims (with the icon of Saint Gunther, and with a small gift shop)
Church (church built in baroque style in the 18th century)
Historic Garden (founded in the 19th century with the typical flora of Bakony Mountains, completely renovated in 2013)
Garden of Herbs (an ecological garden of herbs founded and taken care of by monks)
Bookbinding workshop (can be visited only with a guide)

Other possibilities:
You can try the products of the monastery during a tasting program, where we offer jams, herbal teas, herbal chocolate, etc. to taste.
You can also take part in a small book binding workshop, where you can try the original equipment to make your own book.
The garden and the church building are both accessible by wheelchair.
